A member asked:

I had a ct scan with neutral contrast and iv contrast. the only real finding was a rare distal colonic diverticula. what does this mean as rare. not diverticulitis was found. what is the next steps and treatment for this?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The large intestine is like a large long balloon that holds poop. Diverticula are finger like projections extending outward from the colon. The diverticula show no signs of inflammation so no "itis" is added to the name. Keep a healthy diet with added fiber that avoids constipation and you should be fine. We don't usually treat normal variants.
