The story fits with the normal opening of the Eustachian tube that joins the middle ear to the back of the throat. Allergies/colds/irritants can trigger congestion that leads to tube closure. If closed, air is absorbed from the middle ear and a minor vacuum is created. Yawning straightens the tube & lets air pressure equalize. Noise is perceived. I'd ignore it.
