A member asked:

How long can naproxen sodium be taken for an arm injury? and after about 5 days is it possible to switch to ibuprofen? does a hot water bag help too? thanks?

Naproxen and Ibuprofen are in the same class of NSAIDs, which have almost the same systemic adverse effects but naproxen has longer acting (twice a day dosing) and a higher incidence of gastric side effects. It's safer to switch a NSAID to acetaminophen when pain and inflammation are less. Either cold or heat pad can relieve the pain but the acute swelling can be exacerbated with heat. Good luck.
