For further evaluation a clean catch urine specimen should be sent for a culture&colony count &, a urinalysis including a microscopic examination of the sediment. Infection, stones, kidney pathology are considerations. If these studies show many red cells& more than 1+ protein, further tests such as cytology testing&24 hour urine total protein are next.
