The left kidney is preferred because it has longer vessels so there will be more room when transplant surgeon makes the connection with the receiver's vessels. Donating the right or left kidney does not affect the donor's life but we always choose to protect the donor by preserving the kidney with better function. In practice, both kidneys are used at the same successful rate in deceased donor.

The left kidney vein is longer and it makes transplanting it in the pelvis easier. Which kidney you donate should be discussed with the transplant team as other factors may be involved. Wish you well.
