With the advent of MRIs we don't order myelograms as often as we used to. The neurosurgeons may order them to more accurately assess the degree of nerve root compression by a herniated intervertebral disc. If you're experiencing numbness in both arms, perhaps they are checking to determine how much central spinal cord compression there may be. Your ordering MD,who knows you ,can inform you best

It has been years since I ordered a myelogram, and MRIs have provided more accurate and precise images. An excellent way to assess bilateral arm numbness would be to do an EMG study. Do discuss this type of testing with your doctor. (If you suffered spinal cord compression, you would have symptoms in your legs initially.)
