A member asked:

Can cataracts cause astigmatism?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No. Astigmatism arises from the shape of the eyeball and how that shape distorts the light reflecting off objects before it touches the retina. Cataracts are just like having foggy glasses, This reduces the quality of the image seen. Cataracts have no effect on the shape of the eye, it all happens inside the lens, disturbing the image quality.
