I suspect a nerve impingement on a nerve root exiting the neck caused by a bulging intervertebral disc or a spur. An MRI of your neck would be a worthwhile test to help detect the cause of your discomfort.

Assume an MRI of the neck has been done, but if not, needs to be accomplished to be complete. EMG studies need to be done by a practitioner familiar with appropriate techniques to assess brachial plexus pathology. Unlikely that the location is proximal as more likely over the shoulder area.
