Yes, the CT scan was needed to be certain you didn’t have any bleeding either around your brain or within your brain. This type of bleeding can cause a headache and can occur without any bleeding on the outside of the head. The only way to rule out this potentially life-threatening complication is with a CT scan. The imaging is performed when physicians are concerned about intracranial damage associated with a closed head injury. Of special concern are occult skull fractures and subdural hematomas. Not clear why you wonder if a CAT scan was necessary. Do you have some misgivings about your medical care?
