A few days ago i was sitting outside on a very tall counter. i passed out and fell and hit my head extremely hard on the concrete. i wasnt bleeding but my head hurt and i had a bump. i got a ct scan done and it was fine. was the ct scan necessary?

Yes, the CT scan was needed to be certain you didn’t have any bleeding either around your brain or within your brain. This type of bleeding can cause a headache and can occur without any bleeding on the outside of the head. The only way to rule out this potentially life-threatening complication is with a CT scan. The imaging is performed when physicians are concerned about intracranial damage associated with a closed head injury. Of special concern are occult skull fractures and subdural hematomas. Not clear why you wonder if a CAT scan was necessary. Do you have some misgivings about your medical care?
