Hi i have asked this question to the lab but no reply just yet . i have had a high ast of 46u/l but with comment sample over 48 hours old. please treat result with caution. any ideas what this comment indicates ? thank you in advance?

Yes, a blood sample of 48 hours old will result a high AST level due to the leaking content of red cells from the clotted portion of the sample (serum is on top and the clot is at the bottom of the test tube). Your AST of 46 is slightly high and the result is due to a technical error so you have nothing to worry. Take care.

Hi I have an elevated ast (sgot) at 36.1u/l. The reference range for the lab I used is below 35 u/l. But another lab I have seen has a reference range up to 40 u/l. So am I out of range or not ? And is it something to be concerned about ? Thank you?
