Trying to stop metoprolol extended release 12.5 mg. due to low heart rate. my cardio said cut the 12.5 mg in half for 2 weeks and then stop. im reading not to cut these tablets and now concerned. does this sound ok?

I weaned myself off this drug, cutting the tablets in half and then in quarters. I don't see a problem in doing so, and it worked for me.

The recommendation to follow cardiologists advice is correct. Cutting metoprolol in half should not be a problem.

Because of its micropellet formulation, metoprolol succinateER preserves its 24 hour effect when cut in half but not in quarters. However a quarter tablet is such a minute amount of metoprolol that I think you'd do no harm taking this dose for a week and then stopping.
