A positive result on an ANA test means that antinuclear antibodies were found in your blood. A positive result may be a sign of: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) or a different type of autoimmune disease. However, it can be from a viral infection and antinuclear antibodies from a virus are usually temporarily high. Therefore the test is not really specific for one diagnosis.
