My daughter has been having sore throat for a month and earache. after a throat culture, she was told today she has serratia marcescens. he didnt seem overly concerned and prescribed her bactrim ds. should i be concerned?

That's a normal bacteria not likely to be harmful. It's mostly an intestinal bacteria, not usually found in the throat. The antibiotic may or may not be helpful, but your daughter should take it as prescribed -- or discuss more with her doctor if you remain uncertain. Good luck.
