There : There are a few things you can do to treat a cold caused by an upper respiratory virus. - voice rest - probably the best thing you can do for a sore throat and raspy voice. - drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated - hot tea with honey and lemon - chicken noodle soup - our grandmas were right! research shows that chicken noodle soup is very helpful in treating a cold. - or just a spoon-full of honey - honey has been shown to be as effective a cough suppressant as many over the counter medications - inhale steam from a shower or cool mist from a vaporizer - Acetaminophen and/or Ibuprofen can help with inflammation and throat, ear and sinus pain symptoms from a cold virus should start to improve after a few days. If it does not, of if she gets worse or has any difficulty breathing, call her doctor. You should also call her doctor if the sore throat worsens (could be strep) or if her ear pain worsens (ear infection) or for any new fevers or rash.

Antihistamine : Not knowing your daughter’s medical history, I suggest a mild antihistamine, Benedryl (diphenhydramine) comes in a children’s liquid form. It is safe and will help dry the congestion. If it is not enough contact her physician.
