A member asked:

Symp: congestion (head, not nose), ear ache (left ear), sore throat (left side only). what could it be? have 6wk old & concerned 2 pass 2 him.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Doctor can examine: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep). Meanwhile, to avoid spread, one can wear a mask (sold in stores), wash hands.
