There is pretty unanimous opinion among clinicians that ulcers of the stomach & duodenum will not heal in the presence of active h pylori activity. There is disagreement that eradicating it will relieve symptoms of dyspepsia or GERD, but I believe most clinicians advocate treating h pylori in those cases also& especially if it's in the esophagus. Would definitely recommend treating in order to eliminate possible contribution of HP to GERD symptoms and with the understanding that all other GERD reducing measures including weight loss, if applicable, are in place.
