A member asked:

My grandaughter, 27 yrs old, was just diagnosed with ms from a neurologist. she had many test & finally a spinal tap. would it be wise to get another opinion? also what can they do now for ms? is it better than years ago?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Absolutely, obtain a second opinion, especially from a medical school neurology clinic. False positive diagnoses are in the range of 20-30%. If this does turn out to be MS and not a different disorder, she should be started on high-efficacy medications unless she plans pregnancy in the near future.
