I was diagnosed with ms 3 years ago, relapsing-remitting. would my neurologist have an idea by now of my prognosis? 8 years of progressive symptoms

A few pointers: Prognosis is typically based on several observations, such as frequency and location of relapses, changing MRI lesions, age of onset, etc. Outcomes can be improved, especially within the first 5 yrs after diagnosis by utilizing either Gilenya or tysabri (natalizumab). There may be other medications in the future which will be also of great benefit. Vitamin d-3 supplements also of value. Talk to doc.

Multiple sclerosis: We could establish a rate of relapses, aggressiveness of disease by MRI appearance, clinical manifestation and response to therapy. As of for long term prognosis the early onset has a good prognostic value. African americans, low vitamin d levels, history of cigarette smoking, brainstem, spinal or cerebellar involvement early in the disease has poorer long term prognosis.
