Chia seeds are high in fiber which is good if you need that- may help lowre cholesterol. Eat ones already softened/ prepared. Yes what you are doing is OK

Chia seeds are a reasonable way to achieve extra fiber in the diet, although this can also be achieved easily by using extra psyllium or Metamucil. If you do any of these, be sure to drink lots of extra liquids. Extra fiber is very good for colonic health. Good luck.
