A member asked:

What blood pressure medication causes less vasodilation? i have taken metoprolol and currently on 10mg lisinopril with hctz. both cause finger swelling, i believe from over dilation?

Metoprolol, a beta blocker, is not a vasodilator but can cause fluid retention. The HCTZ in the lisinopril HCT should prevent fluid retention. Lisinopril is a vasodilator but I've never seen it cause edema. You don't mention the dose of metoprolol. Perhaps you need a stronger diuretic. Are you prone to premenstrual fluid retention? I'm sure you're on a no added salt diet.

Both are not a vasodilator anthihypertensive medication but metoprolol is a beta blocker so it has some effect of a dilator. The finger swelling is a less common side effect of metoprolol. In general, blood pressure med with vasodilating effect such as amlodipine or minoxidil often causes leg edema, not the finger. Take care.
