A member asked:

Im allergic to some foods,i take claritin in the daytime and benadryl at night, sometimes when i go to church stuff and theyre giving us stuff like cake or cupcakes i get a sharp pain in my hand after eating them, same with peanuts,so why do i get it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A sharp pain in a hand is not characteristic of an allergic reaction. Rash, itching, hives, tongue or throat swelling, wheezing are typical allergic responses. Life threatening reaction would be cardiovascular collapse (anaphylaxis). Perhaps your antihistamines are preventing true allergic symptoms.
