Reflux GERD: Sounds like she is having a problem with her esophagus which may be gerd (gastro esophageal reflux disease). She should try taking Prilosec (over the counter) twice a day for two weeks straight and see if there is any improvement. If there is, she should continue taking it. She may also want to see a gastroenterologist.

Get Evaluation: Considering history of hyperthyroid, you are going to want her heart to be checked out too. If it is her stomach, risk is not the same if it is her heart. Nothing lost to be sure.
