Assuming the foot drop is due to nerve compression at the L-5 nerve root, when the problem is relieved surgically or secondary to disc desiccation and shrinkage, the nerve may regenerate. If solely the myelin is afflicted, the turnaround could be about 4 wks., but if axonal, any resolution would proceed at the speed of fingernail growth. An EMG test can reveal the extent of problems.

Hard to tell from this information but it sounds like the treatment is being taken seriously. In many instances, if the condition is treated early enough and the cause addressed, then the outcomes can be good.
