A member asked:

After salt soaks & 10 days of cephalexan failed to improve big toe paronychia, dpm says to do doxycycline for 7 days. (infection caused by another dpm whose electric debriding tool nicked skin.) if doxy fails, he suggests nail removal. thoughts?

Some of the nail might be required to be removed Not the complete nail. Also topical antibiotics can be used as well. It is possible the wound needs to be cleaned. Excess skin debriefed and removed Good luck

Is there pus trapped under the nail? If so, does the podiatrist think he can just lift up the nail a tad to let out the pus, continue antibiotic and apply antibacterial ointment? This approach often is effective for paronychia treatment.
