Erosive esophagitis has different grades, grade b esophagitis is just one of them. The treatment includes a PPI and taking it forever if that is what you need would be appropriate. However, you should also make sure you avoid alcohol, coffee, chocolate, mints, and any high fat food, or laying down after you eat and avoid eating later in the evening especially in the 2-3 hours before you go to bed.

If your symptoms are due to Gerd and that PPI is the only thing that gets this under control, then you may need to be on a PPI long term. You should discuss the risks and benefits with your G.I. doctor. It is better than long term acid reflux for your esophagus. Following anti-reflux precautions is important, in addition. Good luck.
