Long term PPI: Although many people have used acid reflux medications for extended periods of time, there is concern of long term consequences from blocking our body's normal responses. Using the medications for the shortest time possible is wisest. Recurrence of symptoms should prompt evaluation of the diet, lifestyle habits, and other possible underlying causes.

Mastic Gum: Mastic gum has been used for hundreds of years to treat gastrointestinal diseases. It has been shown in clinical studies to be very effective in eradicating H. pylori. H. pylori is the spirochete responsible for gastric ulcers and stomach cancer. Mastic gum is available without a prescription, and is less expensive and more efficacious than most medications used to treat H. pylori.
