Long term PPI: Although many people have used acid reflux medications for extended periods of time, there is concern of long term consequences from blocking our body's normal responses. Using the medications for the shortest time possible is wisest. Recurrence of symptoms should prompt evaluation of the diet, lifestyle habits, and other possible underlying causes.
