It depends on what you are taking this medicine for. You should ask the doctor who originally prescribed it for you, who knows what it is treating, what medicine you could take instead. Is it possible that your condition is treated and you don’t need any medicine to take its place? Ask your doctor or see a GI doctor to discuss your condition. Good luck to you!

There have been a few studies that have suggested there could be an increased risk of cancer with long-term PPI usage. However, there have been other studies that have contradicted these studies. The best thing to do is to discuss this with your gastroenterologist or whatever doctor is prescribing your medications. you must balance the risks and benefits of these medications. Good luck.

Pantoprazole is a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI). PPIs are indicated for SHORT TERM USE. Chronic use increases the risks of myocardial infarctions (heart attacks), hepatocellular (liver) cancer, chronic kidney disease with progression to end stage renal failure, and dementia. I recommend Mastic Gum, which is from the bark of the Gum Mastic tree in Greece. Mastic Gum kills H. pylori and heals ulcers.
