A member asked:

I have a few cavities & im scared one will get worse to the point of pulling instead of just filling. so, i brushed my teeth and flossed, then took some hardened tooth paste and put it on my cavity, covering it in place with dental wax. is this ok?

No, those measures won't fix the cavities. You should see a dentist as soon as possible. Take care.

Please have those lesions properly restored by your dentist before they become larger and more expensive to treat. What you are doing will not magically result in the enamel regenerating. In fact, you may be making things worse.

If you wish to prevent further deterioration, see a dentist ASAP. Heed the advice of my colleagues and save yourself from future more complicated and expensive procedures. Do NOT try to treat yourself.

What you have done is to seal the decay causing bacteria into the tooth, increasing the rate of decay. Cavities are infections, and require the services of a doctor with 10000+ hours of post-college education, and a lifetime of experience, to properly treat. The longer you wait, the deeper the infection gets, until either root canal treatment or extraction become inevitable. See Dentist NOW!
