A member asked:

If anion gap range in the lab is 9-18 and my result is 8, should i be concerned? can poor nutrition that i've had in the past few months cause this to be slightly low? would this low result warrant blood tests to check my liver?

No, you should not worry about that. Usually AG = 12 +/- 4 (8-16) in most lab results and lab variation does happen. Furthermore, in clinical evaluation, we are more concern about a high anion gap and only paying attention to a low AG of 3 or less. If all other lab values are within normal limits, you are fine. Take care.
