A member asked:

My blood tests showed anion gap, serum 9 mmol/l and iron % saturation 22%. any connection or reason for concern? both flagged as low.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Abnormal labs: Low anion gap is usually a lab error, so it is spuriously low. A recheck would probably "correct" it. Low iron saturation cannot be interpreted by itself, as there are additional measurements needed to compliment the picture such as red blood cell count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, iron level and iron binding capacity as well as ferritin level.
