Usually, conservative approaches are initially instituted. Physical therapy is the mainstay and eventually, McKenzie Back Exercises can be employed. Surgery and epidural steroid injections are based on progressive muscle atrophy and weakness. (Significance of this can be objectified via an EMG study.) Have a physiatrist become involved.
