A member asked:

I have been diagnosed with a mild ectasia of the basilar artery. my doctor says its nothing to be concerned about but this was found because i have severe migraines that cause my right arm/hand and my face to go numb. should i get a second opinion?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The basilar artery variant has no mechanism in your migraine issues but would wonder if you should be labeled as a Classical Migraine sufferer, and placed on a preventative medication, of which there are now many. If you have not seen a neurologist, that would be an appropriate second opinion. Important to note, if you smoke and take female hormones, you are at higher risk for stroke.
