Migraine or neck: Migraine headaches are vascular in origin, and the pain caused by migraine tends to be pulsating or pounding in nature. Migraine headaches often cause pain in the face, jaw, and eyes, and sometimes the neck. Pain in the neck and shoulders is common in tension headaches, and if severe, pain can radiate down arms.
