My husband had a hot red painful arm yesterday and he took out the d dimer which was 600 and the reference value is 500, what to do now from the tests to be sure what it is, his diagnosis was phlebitis, he said it was the same as a thrombus?

Yes, thrombophlebitis denotes inflammation +/- clotting of a superficial vein and its treatment differs significantly from deep venous thrombosis as anticoagulation is usually not needed in superficial thrombophlebitis, while always needed in deep venous thrombosis.
