Maintaining a healthy lifestyle including social pursuits, reduction of cardiovascular risk factors such as controlling diabetes, a healthy diet and exercise program does play a role. But you must realize this is complicated, and other factors like genetics factor in.

As Dr. Schlichting emphasizes, diabetes is just one of many risk factors for dementia, and diminishing these multiple influences will be useful. But the major risk for Alzheimer's and vascular dementia is aging and of course familial genetics. But your efforts will certainly enhance your quality of life.

Yes, the chances for dementia will decrease with all the efforts noted. At 49 years consciously adding Brain- Healthy Menu; eating for one's Brain Health - makes a lot of difference. In some ways (cognizant of genetics) the loss of Brain cells (De-mentia) is dependent on the deficiency of essential Brain Nutrients by eating or wasting them.
