Anxiety can be associated with cognitive problems, so getting the anxiety controlled is certainly recommended to help alleviate/prevent cognitive problems. However, Dementia, now phrased Major Neurocognitive Disorder (DSM 5) is not a diagnosis. The etiology (cause) of MND factors in here. For example genetics can play a role with Alzheimer's Disease, one cause for MND. Talk to your doc please

Anxiety can indeed compromise our ability to think, focus, concentrate, and communicate. When anxiety is controlled, however, the symptoms stabilize. Dementia is a general term to describe a host of progressive disorders resulting in ongoing intellectual deterioration. Anxiety and/or depression may be an early sign of Alzheimer's disease in the previously emotionally stable elderly.
