Physician extenders are often limited in the type of procedures they are permitted to do and keep their license and or they do not feel it is appropriate for their level of training. Referral to a provider that does such procedures on a regular basis is a standard part of care. The availability and type of local providers often determines where patients are referred. A local derm may not do this.
