Consider 2nd opinion: Have the orthopedic surgeons given you a specific diagnosis? Calcification in soft tissues can sometimes be associated with ongoing inflammation. If the orthopedic surgeons are having trouble diagnosing the condition and presumably there is nothing structurally wrong with the knee, consider asking to be referred to a pediatric rheumatologist to rule out inflammatory causes such as JRA.
