A member asked:

Is it normal for the gum to become more sensitive and swollen again after i resumed chewing around the apicoectomy site one week after the surgery? the gum also started to bleed whenever i floss after i resumed chewing around the apicoectomy site?

The site was surgically irritated along with the surrounding gum tissue. The area is still healing and antibiotics and good oral hygiene therapy is needed. Brush with soft brush ,use Sensodyne toothpaste and antibacterial rinse. Follow all post operative instructions and maintain good oral hygiene so rest of gums don't bleed.

2 thoughts. 1) You are only 1 week post surgery and far from fully healed, and 2) You might have a combined Endo-Perio lesion. Please report your concerns to the General Dentist or specialist Endodontist that did your apicoectomy.
