A member asked:

Does secondary amenorrhea turn into menopause after a certain length of time? for example if a woman in her early 30's goes a whole year or longer without having a period due to her lifestyle, does her secondary amenorrhea come permanent?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Secondary amenorrhea which is very irregular periods for 6 months or no period for 3 months (if is it not pregnancy) should be treated to have the return of periods in order to maintain the hormonal health of the female patient. Left untreated, there will be no periods and it is not menopause but just untreated secondary amenorrhea with concern of the negative effects on bones and the heart.
