A member asked:

I have a endometria ovarian cyst that is 3 centimeters. should i have it surgically removed ? if so why ? what happens if you dont get these cysts removed? how likely is it that i will lose an ovary if i get a cystectomy?

"Endometrioma" is a term generally used to describe a blood filled ovarian cyst. A "3 cm." cyst can continue to grow and usually will rupture spontaneously. Endometriosis is a condition where scattered endometrium exists in the abdomen. Ask your GYN physician about low dose oral bcps, the usual treatment for endometriosis. Laparoscopy may be indicated for diagnostic accuracy.
