Sore tongue: You can ask your dentist for miracle mouth rinse. Common ingredients are viscous Lidocaine , mylanta, nystatin, Diphenhydramine . This should help relieve the pain while you recover.

Try ice: Try using ice chips. There are prescription products that could help if it persists. A simple mix of milk of magnesia and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) may help--gargle and spit out.
