Did your dentist prescribe antibiotics? If so then they suspected you have an infection. Taking the antibiotics will control the infection but not solve your issues.

What you see on the X-ray is the bone density. If there is inflammation, there is fluid and blood vessel in the area, and thus there is varied degree of radioluncency in the bone surrounding the tooth/teeth. Inflammation usually indicates an infection starts to occur. Antibiotics should be prescribed after determined the cause and treatment of the infection.
