I : I am sorry to hear you are having so much trouble with the extraction. When you first went to the dentist, you had an infection and inflammation in the area. After the extraction, the area was a bit traumatized, and due to the underlying inflammation, probably got swollen secondary to the extraction. The infection may have also spead and become diffuse in that area. This is smoething that needs to be monitored very closely by your dentist. If you are still swollen two days after the extraction and on the amoxicillin, i think you should go see your dentist today. A determination will be made if the swelling is just inflammation, or if it is still the infection. Your dentist may need to put you on a different antibiotic since Amoxicillin does not always work. If the Amoxicillin is working, then you will need to be patient since the mechanism by which it kills the bacteria takes several days, that's why the prescription is probably for 7 to 10 days worth of medication. Please go see your dentist today. Hope you feel better.

Antibiotics?: Pulling the tooth was the important step in eliminating the infection. If your dentist didn't prescribe an antibiotic as well, you should request one. The swelling and pain will disappear when the infection is resolved, usually in a week or less.

Several days: Assuming that extracting the tooth has eliminated the the infection, the swelling and soreness should go away within 5 to 10 days. You should have a follow up appointment with your dentist to make sure that the extraction site is healing properly and all surrounding tissues are ok.
