A member asked:

My 2.5 yo recently had blood work as part of a routine allergist checkup. wbc and lymphocytes came back below range at 5.2l and 2595l respectively. all else normal. allergist said its ok if she was recently ill, but she wasnt. should i worry?

Such numbers are not unusual and may have reflected a minor viral illness that was so mild no symptoms were ever evident. They are not in the range where i would worry.

All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, the results are not a cause for concern. Wish you good health!
