A member asked:

My doctor has a sign in his office, telling patient to not fast before any blood work, is this something new? for years we fast to get accurate readings, now all of a sudden we don't. is this so they can find more wrong with you?

It depends on what test is done. Only a few -- like blood sugar (checking for diabetes) and lipid profile (cholesterol etc) -- are affected by food intake. Fasting or not makes no difference at all for most blood and urine tests.
