Are bloodshot eyes a sign of high blood pressure? my doc says its allergies/irritants, but im always worried its bp-related. numbers slightly higher at doc office (149/86 last reading) but in 120/130s over 80s at home. should i worry?

No: High BP is determined by measuring your BP. Red eyes are not a symptom of high BP. You'll get the best measurement of BP by checking it at different times (morning, evening, etc) at home, and averaging. Bring your BP cuff to your doctor's office and compare to theirs. If you get a higher or lower reading, then figure that you have to add or subtract as your machine is a little off.

White coat htn: There is a well known syndrome called white coat hypertension where the stress/anxiety of a medical office visit elevates a persons level into a higher range. Normal readings at home with today's available home systems are often a better guide to real BP levels.Bloodshot eyes are irritant related or infectious, not BP signs.
