A member asked:

Last question about stool, what percent of colon cancer patients have blood in stool? my first fit test i bought is negative.(doctor can't order one i'm under 45). if i do another this year and it's negative is that a good sign no cancer or polyps?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A negative FIT rules out bleeding in the colon. It makes colon cancer less likely but does not rule it out. It rules out polyps even less. Unless there is a family history of early onset colon cancer, you can wait to get screening colonoscopy at age 40-45. If there family history of colon cancer, get colonoscopy 10 years sooner than the youngest at which a relative had cancer.
