Can the supplement glucogold lower blood sugar?

We have many oral medications which are proved effective in lowering blood sugar so I wonder why you have to use supplement for the same purpose. Please note that herbal supplements are not different from FDA approved medications in many aspects (side effects, interaction, etc.) and they are not free.
