A member asked:

Does abilify (aripiprazole) decrease serotonin when taken alone?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not necessarily.: There are many many different serotonin receptors in your body. Indeed 95% of your serotonin receptors reside in your gut, 3% in your brain, and 2% in your platelets. In theory, abilifiy, regulates serotonin activity in that it blocks some serotonin receptors and activates others. In general, when used appropriately, either alone or with another med, Abilify (aripiprazole) has a positive effect on serotonin.
